Of Mice and Men – How Does the Writer Show the Frustration and Tension of the Men’s Lives in This Section?
How does the writer show the frustration and tension of the men's lives in this section? (Page 57 ââ¬â 63) In this section the men are constantly in frustration which creates a tense atmosphere because of the fear of becoming ââ¬Å"sackedâ⬠by Curlyââ¬â¢s old man, although the only place that enables the men on the ranch to repose whilst still working on the ranch is by going to ââ¬Å"Susyââ¬â¢s placeâ⬠. The brothel is strongly depended on by the men because it gives the men happiness; their attachment with the brothel is displayed by announcing what the brothel consists of.George is dependant on the brothel because all he wants is a place where ââ¬Å"A guy can go in anââ¬â¢ get drunk and get everââ¬â¢thing outta his system all at once,â⬠now narrowing this quote down to just, ââ¬Å"and get everââ¬â¢thing outta his system all at onceâ⬠, we are shown that all George wants is to be away from is the ranch and going to the brothel allows him to simply forget all his problems for the duration of one night. The fact that George is desperately willing to escape life on the ranch shows an idea of frustration because George is aware that heââ¬â¢s going to be on there for a long period of time, but in the same situation, he is in desperation to leave work to become his own boss. The determination becomes frustration due to the possibility that Georgeââ¬â¢s dream is becoming further and further away from his grasp.Although in this section, the tension is mostly created by Curley; when Curley enters the ranch the majority of the men change their behaviour to an awkward characteristic, because the main focus is on Curley and his wife, and the men know that Curleyââ¬â¢s wife can cause trouble due to her flirtatious inner nature. Curley enters the ranch in search of his wife which gets the men get frustrated because when Curley is present he always insists on starting a fight with someone which leads to Curley trying to build up the tension between the men. Curley bust into the roomâ⬠shows the anxiety that Curley has towards the men and his wife being around everywhere he also ââ¬Å"looked threateningly about the roomâ⬠in attempt to cause a fight with one of the men. The men also claim ââ¬Å"Curleyââ¬â¢s just spoiling itâ⬠by trying to threaten all the men he is causing hatred within the rest of the ranch workers to go against him.

The Leaderââ¬â¢s Choice to Serve Life Essays
The Leaderââ¬â¢s Choice to Serve Life Essays The Leaderââ¬â¢s Choice to Serve Life Essay The Leaderââ¬â¢s Choice to Serve Life Essay The shared values of humanity proclaim the choice to serve life as the most desirable goal for a human being to have.à No wonder, some of the greatest leaders in the history of humanity, such as the Buddha, the Christ, Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr. continue to inspire people to choose to serve life.Any leader who makes this choice is expected to serve the wider interests of living beings.à Such a leader may help to eradicate illiteracy and poverty across the globe; find ways to cure AIDS and cancer; or simply save the planet from the effects of global warming.à This leader would not be motivated by his self interests alone, such as the maintenance of his high status in society, or the hoarding of wealth.à Rather, he would inspire his followers to help him serve the life on our planet.à It does not matter whether his efforts are far-reaching and all-encompassing or not.à It is his intention alone that matters, seeing that his followers are expected to continue his work in any case. While the leader inspires people to join him voluntarily in serving a cause, management requires subordinates rather than followers.à Besides, a leader is one who inspires his followers to work with him on changing something that is believed to be undesirable.à A manager, on the contrary, directs or controls his subordinates to follow values and principles that are already established.à Thus, the leader is always known for his vision, while the manager is simply recognized for his authority.à In terms of the choice to serve life, the leader is expected to come up with new ideas for change that would benefit society.à On the other hand, a manager working for an NGO may direct his subordinates to serve the goals of the organization, the leader of which has chosen to serve life.

Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers essays
Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers essays This dance performance that we went to see took place at the University Theater Box. I think this was a great performance, it was fun, and interesting. In addition to the content of the performance, I think, the dancers did a wonderful job. I noticed that every movement of the dances had some passion. The title of this dance performance was Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers, I think this title was used for this performance because Hae Kyung Lee is the artist director who founded the choreographer of Hae Kyung Lee and Dancers. I think the genre of this performance was spiritual because with the movement of the dancers they expressed human existence. The theme of this dance performance was to let the audience know that humans are precious; also, humans are distinct from one another, but we are all beautiful. There was no main character in the dance performance, in contrast , I think every person who danced formed the main characters because every person who danced gave us a massage. I think the goal of this dance performance was to encourage people to be proud of oneself, because every individual is precious. The director did have a concept for this production. The concept for this production was that Using the human body as expression with language of dance movement. I do agree with the interpretation of the director because I think that humans can express emotions, feeling, and ideologies with the movement of our bodies. I think every part of our body has the ability to express certain things. For example, the hands, I noticed the dancers used their hands frequently, they would form all kinds of movements and shapes with their hands. I think every part of our body is very useful for expressions, but the hands and facial expressions are more useful because they can create expressions, change expression, and express freely. Regarding the design elements used in the performance...

Signal Words - The Most Comprehensive Guideline
Signal Words - The Most Comprehensive Guideline Compare And Contrast Signal Words Writing is a very complicated process, which involves multiple stages and requires lots of elements to be combined and twisted in a single drawing. Writing can also be called a sort of communication because an author aims to communicate his or her ideas in various ways. That is why, if you want to render your thoughts in a clear and engaging manner, you may surely need signal words. They are like road signs, mapping the text and connecting its parts together. They are also called transition words and aim to combine different parts of sentences or two paragraphs. Signal words types There are many types of signal words, so you need to get familiar with all of them in order to apply properly and not to confuse the reader. Emphasis words Every writing contains multiple ideas. Some of them are central, while the rest are not so important. However, there are no universal ideas, which are equally important to each and every person on Earth. Of course, global warming is a very important topic but there are still many people, who donââ¬â¢t believe in it.à That is why the significance of an idea depends on the authorââ¬â¢s thoughts and the context. That is when emphasis words come in hand. They help the reader to understand what the author finds important. In such a way they get an image what side the writer is on and what his opinion on the topic is. For example: The only effective weapon to fight corruption in countries of the third word is a political command. Through such words, we understand that the author distinguishes political approach among other ways of fighting corruption. Additional words When such words are used at the beginning of the sentence, it means that the writer will be providing several arguments on the same topic. Such additional words include first, for one thing and others. For example, first of all, you need to approach your professor and ask for specific recommendations. There are also additional words, which can be used to continue the thought: in addition, moreover, secondly and so on. Words, which are used at the end of the sentence, include finally and last of all. Contrast and comparison words Such words are among the most popular ones because they help to point on differences and similarities of two various items. Comparison words: equally, likewise, just as and much more. For example, A political command is very important in dealing with corruption, just as obeying the laws. Contrast words indicate thoughtsââ¬â¢ changes of the author. They show that the writer is willing to move in a different direction from the thoughts, which were expressed before. This is when words like but, however, still, conversely and others are used. For example: I love traveling to other states, however, I would never leave California for good. Illustration words Such words are used, when the author wants to give an example of the thought or idea, which they render. Illustration words include for instance, for example, such as, to depict and so on. For example: There are many ways we can show our affection, such as physical presence, gifts, sweet words and much more. Cause and effect signal words When using such words, the author signals that he or she is willing to mention the results of the concept, which were stated before. Examples of such words include, therefore, as a result, because and others. For example: Political command is crucial in fighting corruption because politicians are the ones, who make the policy. Final thoughts As you see from examples above, signal words bear such a name, because they act like signals of which direction the author is willing to move. They help the reader to acquire new information and follow the authorââ¬â¢s thoughts. Importance of signal words is obvious, so you need to adapt them in your texts in order to create a strong, clear and readable text.

Innovation and technology management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Innovation and technology management - Essay Example During the recession in 2008, the owners of different companies worldwide were focused towards growth and they predicted that technological innovation would be the main source of success for the companies. In such a situation, The CEOs of the companies employed technology to gain success and differentiation simultaneously (Orcale, 2012, p. 1-10; Jaruzelski, Loeher and Holman, 2012, pp. 16-24). According to the survey conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2011, about 80% of the CEOs of the companies operating globally believed that innovation is main driver for organisational efficiency and aims at building competitive advantage. From the survey results, it was observed that about 70% of CEOs had invested in undertaking technological up gradation to reduce the cost of the companies and in return became more efficient (Orcale, 2012, p. 1-10; Jaruzelski, Loeher and Holman, 2012, pp. 16-24). However, it is also evident that even technological advancement cannot deliver success until and unless business goals and strategies are developed and focused. Thus, it is pivotal to understand the condition of the company before undertaking any innovation process. The role of innovation is evaluated so as to ensure that it will lead to profitable growth. The changes in the company operation are evident when technological innovation is required (Orcale, 2012, p. 1-10). Innovation can take place in a number of ways; in a technological change highlights the types of products and services that can be produced by the company or change in business model that aims at delivering the initial value of the company (Jaruzelski, Loeher and Holman, 2012, pp. 16-24). Hence, it is quite evident that the companies should recognise the type of innovation that is required for the development of their business so as to sustain in the long run. The types of innovation are incremental, radical and breakthrough innovations. These innovations are
The Role of Natural Capital in the Week versus Strong Sustainability Essay
The Role of Natural Capital in the Week versus Strong Sustainability Debate - Essay Example The issue of sustainability is therefore subject to both traditional and contemporary arguments, the underlying interest being to define the natural world in the view of both arguments. The weak versus strong sustainability debate emanates from both environmental and economic concerns. A sustainable development is one that is rooted on the strongholds of both the economy and the environmental. In this regard, two principle concepts emerge. These are: natural and manufactured capital. The debate surrounding these two concepts gives rise to weak versus strong sustainability debate, with the role of natural capital being the focal point in the debate. The defining variables of both weak and strong sustainability are essential to consider in the evaluation of the role of natural capital in the context of the two. Sustainable development is defined as that development that provides the potential and ability to meet present needs without jeopardising the potential and ability of future gen erations to meet their own needs (Hartwick, 2007, p.972-974). In other words, the needs of both present and future generations are central to the achievement of sustainable development. It is important to note that the needs referred to are cultural, social, economic and political in nature. ... The process to sustainable development is not a smooth process. There are biases associated with sustainable development, each of which influences the process in one way or another. These biases include: tragedy of the commons, common costs, private profits, uncertainty, future discounting among others (Pearce, 2006, p.85-101). A number of phenomena are presented by the highlighted biases. Common ownership of resources is evident, exacerbating the need to grab resources within the shortest time possible. Industrial pollution is inevitable in land, air and water. Furthermore, the cost of pollution is transferred to the society, while profits are reaped by privately owned enterprises. The process of sustainable development is therefore highly characterized by externalities, both positive and negative. Uncertainty continues to encompass economic and environmental undertakings prior to sustainable development. Global warming around the world remains evident, but its extent is uncertain. There are underlying ecological and/or economic disasters that need to be accounted for in sustainable development process. It is also argued that sustainable development is primarily concerned with the future. While this is true, the present must be set in a way that aids concern for the future. The availability of resources today does not guarantee the same availability in future. Utilization and conservation of resources for the present and future generations yields the weak versus strong sustainability debate, with emphasis on natural capital today and in future. Natural capital is defined as the capacity of the environment to provide goods and services for use by the population (Pezzey, 2009, p.26). The population in this case

Unit 3 Discussion Board Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 4
Unit 3 Discussion Board - Essay Example The performance measurement systems therefore within nursing homes relied more on the assumption that the ââ¬Å"facility performance contribute heavily towards individualââ¬â¢s performanceâ⬠. (Phillips, Shen, Chen, & Sherman, 2007) However, there are various indicators which contribute towards the overall performance of the nursing homes. Many researchers believe that the key indicator of the performance of the homes is residentsââ¬â¢ outcomes. (IOM, 1986). Apart from that the facilityââ¬â¢s compliance with the regulations such as compliance with standards, conditions of participation etc are other standards which are considered as key behind the measurement of the performance of the nursing facilities. However, there is other general criterion also which are typically being used to measure the performance of the health care services. Specifically consumer satisfaction is considered as the main driver of the value for health care services because it is believed that consumer satisfaction derives the administrative efficiencies of these facilities and both the variables have strong correlation between them however, generally, the characteristics of providers and hospitals, the interaction between the patients and the providers as well as the overall outcome of that process are the basics of evaluating the overall performance of the nursing care homes. One of the most important barriers in performance evaluation of those nursing homes is the fact evaluating the performance is multidimensional in nature and there is no single measure of the performance evaluation. Further these homes are also under the regulation of the government which may force them to maintain quality standards which may not directly relate to the value generating capabilities of the homes. This therefore diverts the resources of those homes to activities which could otherwise have been used in improving the performance standards. Phillips, C. D., Hawes, C., Lieberman, T., &
